Many vineyards on Long Island (including us!) are members of Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing (LISW). For those of you who haven’t heard of LISW, here’s a little history:
The first LI vines were planted in 1973 in Cutchogue on the North Fork of Long Island. (This means that Long Island wine country is less than 50 years old!) As a young wine region, it is important that we establish best practices that produce quality wine grapes. We do this by learning how to properly cultivate the land by creating sustainable, healthy winegrowing techniques that will help the region develop. With this in mind, LISW was established.
We are a proud member of Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing (LISW). LISW is a not-for-profit organization that provides education and certification for Long Island vineyards in order to reduce the environmental impact.
We are aware of the consequences of our actions on the farm, in the workplace, in the community, and the wider world around us. Being sustainable means we manage our vineyard using the best practices to reduce our impact.
